Temple
About

Situated about 300 meters above sea level, this temple offers panoramic views over Imabari City and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Passing through the Niō gate, visitors enter a serene forested space. Legends tell of the principal image being fashioned by a woman who emerged from an undersea palace. With a pilgrims’ lodge on site, it is an ideal place to rest and reflect while enjoying views toward the Shimanami Kaidō.

Johannes comment

Hilltop temple with great views over the Imabari valley; steep final staircase approach. Offers a unique tsuyadō experience—pilgrims may be invited to bathe after shukubō guests; paid shukubō stays may be possible but usually require advance arrangement. Guests are invited to 6:00 am opening ceremony in the main hall (Heart Sutra chanting and a Japanese talk).

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
