No.62 Tenyōzan Kannonin Hojuji

Temple
About

Famous for prayers for safe childbirth. A stone monument at the entrance records the temple’s former association with a local shrine. The principal image is a Kannon associated with childbirth, while the Daishidō enshrines Kūkai for protection from misfortune. Pilgrims traditionally chant “Namu Daishi Henjō Kongō” as many times as their age, in a quiet atmosphere of prayer.

Johannes comment

Historically fragmented temple separated from its shrine-style okuno-in across railway tracks. Feels modest but maintained by friendly caretakers. Close to Nojima House (donation-based zenkonyado) ~500 m north. Optional detour to Temple 60 okuno-in on the way.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
