No.4 Kokuganzan Henjōin Dainichiji
A tranquil temple in Itano, Tokushima, surrounded by hills and greenery. The vermilion gate and distinctive buildings stand out; the site was revived in the 17th century. In the Daishi Hall, murals depict Kōbō Daishi as “Day” and “Night,” and a corridor enshrines 33 carved figures associated with the Saigoku 33 Kannon pilgrimage. Exceptionally well‑run temple with English‑speaking priest and modern facilities. Do not miss the wooden boardwalk with historic Buddha statues between the halls. Always remove pilgrim clothing before using the toilets.
