No.35 Iōzan Kyōchiin Kiyotakiji

Temple
About

A famous temple for warding off misfortune on the mid-slope of Mt. Kiyotaki in northern Tosa City. The gate ceiling’s dynamic dragon and celestial maiden paintings and the Chinese-style main and Daishi halls are distinctive. A roughly 15-meter Yakushi Nyorai statue stands powerfully before the main hall, and you can also experience kaidan-meguri. Set near the Tosa washi region, it connects water, prayer, and local culture.

Johannes comment

Steep uphill approach and the last temple in the consecutive tsuyadō stretch; two tatami rooms may be available as tsuyadō if asked politely. Nearby Henro House in the hills. Okuno-in is a sacred spring linked to Kūkai, known for healing/protection; feels like a chapter-closing point before longer stretches ahead. Narrow car access road; firefighter vehicle display is notable.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
