Temple
About

A mountaintop temple in Katsura, Tokushima (about 470 m elevation) reached by steep roads—one of the “Three Great Difficult Places” of the pilgrimage. The name derives from a legend of a white crane protecting Jizō Bosatsu. Highlights include a gate with Four Heavenly Kings and Tokushima’s only three-story pagoda. After hardship, the site offers profound prayer and emotion.

Johannes comment

Crane-symbol mountain temple marking the second Henro Korogashi—one of the toughest sections. From Katsura Valley, expect big elevation swings (up to T20, down, up to T21, then down toward lodging) with no food en route; restock fully in Katsura (conbini/michi-no-eki). Strenuous but rewarding forest day; physical issues often surface here.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
