About

In downtown Sanuki City, this temple has a main hall built in 1683 and a principal image of Shō Kannon attributed to Gyōki. Two sutra pillars in front of the gate are Important Cultural Properties. As the penultimate temple, it’s a fitting place to pause and reflect before the final destination.

Johannes comment

Wide but feels empty; approach from 86 is dull along main road. Okuno-in Gyokusen-ji sits about 2/3 of the way from 86 to 87 (may be unmanned). Good nearby stays: Inn Tektek (henro-friendly) + another ryokan; Marunaka supermarket close. Before the final climb to 88, visit the Ohenro Museum for certificate/registration and henro exhibits.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
