Temple
About

At the foot of Mt. Gohashi, this temple is linked to the legend of the young Kūkai leaping from a cliff at nearby Shasha-ga-take to test his resolve. The principal image is said to have been carved by Kūkai himself. A special worship spot allows those unable to climb the cliff to pray, offering quiet reflection for those at life’s crossroads.

Johannes comment

Compact hill temple with views over Zentsūji. Strong Kōbō Daishi presence. Hidden bell tower behind hall. Female head priest. Major okuno-in ~600–800 m south on top of the hill; linked to leap-of-faith legend of Kukai with monthly ceremonies.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
