No.59 Kinkōzan Saishōin Iyo Kokubunji
A historic provincial temple rebuilt multiple times after fires, with the current main hall dating from 1789. Instead of a traditional gate, a dignified stone pillar gate marks the entrance. The beloved “Handshake Daishi” statue is said to grant wishes when visitors take his hand. As one of the ancient provincial temples, it symbolizes the deep connection between state authority and Buddhism.
I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.

Last temple of the Imabari stretch; provincial Kokubun-ji that can feel underwhelming today. Beloved feature: a Kōbō Daishi statue where pilgrims can shake hands and make one sincere wish. Historically had a towering 7-story pagoda (~60 m), now gone; temple can feel energetically a bit empty.
