No.23 Iōzan Muryōjuin Yakuoji
In Minami, Tokushima—known as Tokushima’s final temple on the route. Through the grand gate, the main hall enshrines two Yakushi Nyorai called the “Backward-Facing Yakushi,” revered for warding off misfortune. Highlights include age-themed stone steps, the Yugi Pagoda, and kaidan-meguri (a symbolic walk through darkness). A key spiritual reset before entering Tosa (Kōchi).
I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.

Iconic pagoda and one of the best hubs: Hiwasa offers onsen opposite the temple, train station, michi-no-eki, bicycle rental, and tourist sites (castle, seashell museum). Many good lodgings ~200 m before the temple—strongly worth staying 1–2 nights for luggage-free coastal and Nature Trail day walks. From T22, take the coastal route (not the main road).
