A temple with an Important Cultural Property main hall and one of the largest wooden Thousand-Armed Kannon statues in Shikoku. The pine-lined approach and rows of stone Buddhas evoke deep antiquity. Johannes comment

Best ‘state temple’ feel among the four Kokubun-ji. Excellent shop + ‘Henro is Life’ products. Daishidō is inside the Nokyōchō building (with dark passage and special Kōbō Daishi statue); main hall outside among big stones and pines. Plan supplies for steep Goshikidai (81–82) climb; consider transport back near 79 to avoid backtracking on the plateau.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
