Temple
About

A temple in the forested hills of Komatsushima City, with views toward Komatsushima Port and the Kii Channel. Seasonal nature softens the pilgrim’s mind. The main hall enshrines a Yakushi Nyorai said to be carved by Gyōki; the Daishi Hall and the prefecturally protected “biranjyu” tree are also highlights. A memorable stop where scenery and faith feel harmonized.

Johannes comment

To avoid the unpleasant Tokushima urban stretch, consider taking the bus from Tokushima Station to ~500 m before the temple to avoid busy road walking. Small, romantic hillside forest temple with the Kūkai-and-his-mother legend, beautiful child statues, and a huge Kōbō Daishi statue.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
