Temple
About

A temple in Sukumo, Kōchi—Kōchi’s final stop on the route. After roughly 50 km from Kongōfuku-ji, it marks a key transition. Past the Niō Gate, a calm main hall enshrines Yakushi Nyorai; the grounds include the red-turtle legend statue and an “Eye-Washing Well.” Gentle sea views help soothe fatigue and prepare the heart for the Ehime leg.

Johannes comment

Last temple of Kōchi Prefecture. Long stretch from Temple 38; after returning to Tosa-Shimizu, choose inland official route toward Sukumo, quiet inland backroads, or (recommended) the coastal route via Ōtsuki for the best ocean feeling. Famous for healing waters and a dragon-palace legend; stamp features a large turtle. Logistics: Sukumo is a good base; train to Hirata Station (closest) and walk back is an option.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
