No.28 Hōkaizan Kōshōin Dainichiji
A gentle temple in the fields of Noichi, Kōnan City (Kōchi). Past a wooden gate stands a main hall rebuilt with traditional joinery without nails. The inner “Claw-Carved Yakushi” is tied to a legend that Kōbō Daishi carved Yakushi into camphor wood using his nails; it’s believed to help ailments of the head and neck. With pure “okaji” sacred water and peaceful countryside, it softens even tired hearts.
I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.

Long coastal road stretch can be tiring; you can shorten it by train from Tōnohama Station near Temple 27. First temple in the Kōchi City area (outskirts), small but with a well-kept garden. Has a tsuyadō, a nearby okuno-in within the precincts, and a good pilgrim shop at the base of the stairs to the gate.
