Temple
About

A secluded temple in a calm valley of Awa, Tokushima. One of Shikoku’s largest gates is overwhelmingly impressive, and vivid celestial maiden imagery draws you into a brilliant world. From the Daishi Hall behind the main hall, you can look out over the Yoshino River. The precincts also preserve one of Shikoku’s oldest and largest Tahōtō pagodas. Surrounded by cultural treasures, it invites a still, reflective visit.

Johannes comment

Many steps to the main hall (very hot in summer). Look for the hidden shaded rest area near the stamp office. Daishidō is higher up with views, and you can exit across the street to a small local lake instead of returning to the main gate.

Who is Johannes?

I like to travel, and whenever I have time, I walk all over the place. He is particularly knowledgeable about the Shikoku Pilgrimage and enjoys talking about the temples and the journey. I like talking to people and value encounters.
